The Crow

A sneak peek at my submission for Printed In Blood’s The Crow anniversary artbook!

This project is deeply personal for me. I still remember sitting in a theater in the third grade, watching this masterpiece unfold on the big screen. My mom, a huge Brandon Lee fan, was the reason we went, and it was love at first sight. That movie stuck with me, and soon after, I discovered The Crow comics—mesmerized by their raw beauty and emotion.

Not long after, my uncle took me to my first big comic con: Wizard World Chicago. There, I met The Crow creator, James O’Barr. Starstruck, I had nothing for him to sign, but his glowing sketchbook caught my eye. If you bought it, he’d do a quick Sharpie head sketch of his creation. Of course, I bought it. Watching him work was magic.

My uncle asked him, “Any advice for a kid who wants to do this for a living?” O’Barr paused, looked at me, and said, “Never give up. Keep drawing, and don’t let them beat you up.”

That moment has stuck with me all these years. So when the chance came to create a piece for The Crow anniversary, I couldn’t pass it up. This piece is heartfelt—a tribute to a movie, a comic, and an actor who’ve inspired me for decades.
